The National Population, Household and Housing Census is implementing for the first time, in its eleventh edition, the option to complete the online questionnaire. This is the premiere of a bimodal methodology that will save time for the general population and census takers in particular. It will be available until eight o’clock in the morning of Wednesday, May 18, a national holiday guaranteed by decree 42/2022, the day when the face-to-face census will take place: all homes in the country will be visited.

The census is compulsory for all inhabitants of the country (foreigners with six months of stay). Digital charging is not a substitute for face-to-face census. The person who decides to answer the online questionnaire must still be at home on Wednesday, May 18 to receive the census taker. The authorities of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), responsible for coordinating the survey, suggest that exchange be at the door of housing for health prevention. The visit will be after eight in the morning and before six in the afternoon. If you have already completed the questionnaire through any digital device with an internet connection, the census taker will only request a six-digit alphanumeric code that must not be printed or displayed: it is enough that it is reported for the census taker to register it in the system and verify that the questionnaire is correct and complete.

In the more than twelve hours it has been active, 50 thousand households and homes have already completed the digital census. Some users had problems uploading their data due to high demand from inhabitants who entered the website

Enter the link and select the “digital census” button ” that is highlighted in blue tones in the upper right corner of the screen. Indec will not send any link by email, whatsapp or any other digital means to access this option to complete the virtual upload.

A subdomain of the web will open. On the left, two prominent buttons will appear: “generate code” and “enter”. If this is the first time, the user must select the first option, which appears under the heading “To start the digital Census it is necessary to generate the unique code of the house that will allow them to complete the questionnaire”. The other option – “enter” – is for those who already have a unique housing code. The online form allows you to save the uploaded information and finish completing the questionnaire at a later time.

On the right side of the screen, there are four interactive tabs with basic information. The first explains that “anyone who lives in the house and who knows the information of its members can answer the questions for each one of them” and that the process can take between ten and twenty minutes, depending on the number of people and their ages. The second question “how to start answering the census?” and responds: “The person in charge of censoring your home and home must click on the ‘Generate Code’ button and fill in the requested data. Once you have obtained the unique housing code, you will be able to answer the Digital Census. That code will allow you to re-enter and complete the questionnaire whenever you want.” The third informs that at the end of the questionnaire, a voucher will be issued with the completion code that must be shown to the census taker on the day of the face-to-face census, Wednesday, May 18. And finally, the fourth tab clarifies that the answers are absolutely confidential and are protected by the statistical secrecy provided for in Law 17.622.

INDEC presented the final questionnaire of the 2022 National Population, Household and Housing Census consisting of 61 questions, 24 related to the characteristics of housing and households, and 37 on the structure of the population

A window will appear in the middle of the screen. The system will ask you to fill in four fields: the type and document number of the person in charge of filling in the details of the household and its members, their day and month of birth. The first captcha will appear: a security tool that is as annoying as it is useful to ensure the level of authentication.

In order to generate the unique code of the house, it will be necessary to prove the geographical location of the home. The fields required to load are highlighted with an asterisk: province; department, party or commune; locality; street, route or road name; gate or kilometer number. There is pre-filled information that will help to complete the questionnaire. If no data is found, a manual entry may be enabled to write the address. This information should be backed up by manual selection of housing through a red dot on the map.

A poster will say “your unique housing code is” and in capitals a five-digit alphanumeric code will be revealed. You will be able to copy and save this code if you decide not to complete the questionnaire on your first entry and, in turn, you must provide an email – and validate it – to send you that same receipt by email. A click on “start census” will grant access to the next screen.

A brief introduction will go over basic information: who should be registered, who can answer the questionnaire, what is asked, how it is answered, the function of autosave and the final voucher. The continue option will finally enable the digital questionnaire.

One by one, the 61 questions -at most- of a survey organized in two modules (that of the household -the respective access to services, characteristics of housing, among other conditions) and that of each person member of the household) and divided into five blocks (housing, list of persons in the household, characteristics of the household and housing, population, proof). You can go back: the answers can be corrected. By pressing the “end census” button, the system will issue a new six-digit alphanumeric code that will be similar to the unique housing code created at the beginning of the procedure. This code will work as proof to present on the day of the face-to-face census, Wednesday, May 18. It will also be sent by email.
