Liverpool Vs Watford Prediction, Tips & Stats

Liverpool will welcome Watford to Anfield on Saturday afternoon for the first game of the return of Premier League action after international football for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

This match kickstarts a vital weekend for both clubs, with Watford desperately needing points to escape relegation and Liverpool having the opportunity to go ahead of Manchester City and into the top spot for the first time since December.

Liverpool have won their last nine Premier League games in a row and were last defeated on Boxing Day 1-0 away at the King Power Stadium by Leicester City, with their latest league outing being a 2-0 win away at the Emirates Stadium with goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino within the space of eight minutes.

Liverpool sustained pressure from Arsenal within the first half and managed to go into the break level despite both teams having good chances to put either side ahead, a notable one being Sadio Mane’s shot over the bar in added time.

Jurgen Klopp’s men then eased into the game and managed to secure the vital three points for the title race. This was despite the askew back pass made by Thiago which put Alexandre Lacazette in on goal, which lead to Alisson making an astounding save from Martin Odegaard’s strike.

Watford have won just two of their last 10 league games and have only scored more than one goal twice within that period.

In spite of this, the club did manage to take all three points in their last match away at the Saint Mary’s Stadium in a vital win for their hopes to remain in the top flight of English Football.

The team was pulled over the line by a stunning brace from Watford’s in-form Cucho Hernandez, the first of which was created by the forward being quick to realise an opportunity created by Southampton’s lazy passing in their own defensive third and the second was a lovely, placed volley into the bottom right-hand corner from a cross played in by Juraj Kucka.

The Colombian winger has three goals and one assist in his last two appearances and may be the focal point for the Hornets in their upcoming visit to Anfield.

Watford however conceded several chances to Southampton from set-pieces once of which resulted in a goal from Mohammed Elyounoussi after a flick on at the front post left the Hornets defence scrambling and lead to an easy tap in for the Southampton forward.

Liverpool may be able to take advantage of Watford’s uneasy defending from set-pieces with the Reds having the most goals from set-pieces this season with 15.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Watford 6/1
